What is filtered water? Tap water that has passed through a filter medium before you drink it – at home, usually a jug cartridge. The change is threefold: taste improves as chlorine and off-notes are reduced, limescale declines as part of the dissolved calcium is removed, and everything downstream – kettle, coffee machine, iron — works against less scale.
Inside the cartridge, two materials do the work: activated carbon adsorbs chlorine and taste-affecting substances, and ion-exchange resin swaps out part of the hardness minerals. Filtered, distilled, purified: three different things
Is distilled water the same as filtered water? No. Distillation evaporates and re-condenses water, removing nearly everything – minerals included; it is made for irons and laboratories, not for taste.
